"Twilight"

Last Saturday, my daughter, daughter-in-law, and other family members, including my mom (my daughter's grandmother) and I did our first ever girls day out and saw the infamous "Twilight" movie. You'd think I would be too old to love a chick flik but I have to say it was a pretty cute show. The book was better but the great parts of the book were in the movie. I had to keep telling my mom (grandma) the what, whys, and whos of the story. Afterward, we had lunch at Mimi's (the restauraunt, not the dance studio). It was a fun day together with the girls and it was fun at work on Monday to hear everyone else's impressions of the movie.

Making Christmas Gifts

I've been busy trying to get gifts made for Christmas so that they will be ready this year before the 14th of December. Many of the gifts are for the 12 days of Christmas for three different families. Three really CUTE families. I can't wait to deliver the gifts. Everything is sooooo fun for the holiday season. I can't reveal what the gifts are just yet because I don't want the families to find out who are getting the presents but I know they will have fun.

We are also in the midst of getting the basement turned into an apartment for Jamie and her cute family. Over the past two weeks we have gotten the electrical, plumbing, gas fireplace, sheetrock, mud, and the primer coat of paint on the walls. It finally looks like there is an end in sight. Tomorrow we will get the second coat of paint on the walls and then call the electrician and the tiler to see if they can come out this week and finish up their jobs. We are hoping the general contractor will get us the doors and trim so we can paint those too. Oh, we will order the kitchen cabinets tomorrow and go buy appliances. So much to do to try to get them moved in before Thanksgiving. What a fun time this is! I love to see new paint go on walls. It looks so fresh and clean. If I get ambitious today I will post a before picture. Until then have a great day! The sun is shiny up here in Herriman!

Creative, Talented People

The last few days I've been surfing the web for creative blogs and websites.  There are about a million of them at least!  It has been fun to get ideas for home decorating, crafts, and creating handmade christmas presents. I wish I had the time to devote to all of these wonderful endeavors. I am doing my best to create gifts that are of quality and useful.  See you soon~

Book Tag

I am tagging Jamie, Heather, and Meg.

Pick up the book you are currently reading (we all have a book waiting for us on the nightstand, right?), turn to page 56, go to the 5th sentence and post the next 2-5 sentences in the book.  Then tag 3-5 other people.

One day he found a can of salmon that had been thrown away.  He ate the entire thing in one sitting. Later he threw up the contents of his hurried lunch.
He dreaded Christmas. It wasn't because he didn't believe in Christmas or Santa Claus; it was because they didn't seem to believe in him.

This passage was from a christmas story in the book, The Twelve Days of Christmas - Ideas for a More Meaningful Holiday Season by Betty Van Orden. The story is titled, Levi's Christmas.  The book is meant to help your families celebrate the birth of the Savior with more meaning in their hearts and with more action in their lives through 12 days of giving and service during the Christmas season.

I will leave you with a quote from L. Tom Perry, The improvement Era, Dec. 1970, that Mrs. Van Orden opens the book with.

Oh, parents, we would plead, give good and happy memories to your children - not pampering or overindulging, not satisfying everything they take a fancy to - but memories of love, encouragement, of peace and harmony and happiness at home-memories that will bless and lift their lives wherever they are, always and forever.

I hope all of you will find ways to create love and service in your homes during the holiday season.  -Michelle

Wonderfully Creative Blogs

I have been surfing blogs for the past couple of days and finding out that people are all really creative.  My attempt at blogging is pitiful at best but as I cruise other blogs I am finding more and more ideas to make mine better. If you want to see some really nice outdoor decorated homes and porches be sure to visit http://theinspiredroom.net/category/drive-bys/.

This site really got me started on looking at wonderfully
creative sites.
